Tree about 12 m. tall, with a narrow crown, resembling teak; bark tan-coloured, peeling, prominently lenticellate.. Leaf-blades rounded-ovate, 15.5–23 cm. long, 11.5–19 cm. wide, acute or shortly acuminate at the apex, rounded then shortly cuneate at base, glabrous above, extremely finely puberulous beneath and with minute stipitate glands and larger sessile ones; venation closely reticulate and prominent beneath; petiole stout, 1.3–3 cm. long, margin of abscission surface with long inwardly directed hairs hiding the surface.. Fruits obconic, ± 1 cm. wide at top of calyx-tube, puberulous; fruiting calyx-limb probably shallowly bowl-shaped in life, 4–7 cm. in diameter, entire or very faintly (4–)5-lobed, closely reticulate-venose, sparsely puberulous or ± glabrous; upper superior discoid part of fruit cushion-shaped, ± 1 cm. in diameter; persistent pedicel slender, 1–1.3 cm. long; fruit with 4 trigonous nutlets..
