Creeping subshrub, usually mat-like; prostrate runners to 2 mm diam., lateral short shoots erect. Stems glabrous, sometimes sparsely hairy. Leaves stiff, imbricate on short shoots, lanceolate, obtuse, ±glabrous, or with ciliate margins, apex often penicillate, grey-green; lamina 1.5–4 mm long, 0.4–1 mm wide; 3 or 4 veins visible adaxially. Inflorescence of 1–5 flowers terminal on short shoot. Flowers unisexual with vestigial androecia or gynoecia (plants dioecious), or bisexual. Perianth 2.5–4 mm long. Seed l.3 mm long, 0.7 mm diam.
