Characteristics

Trees with elliptic entire acuminate leaves; stipules very long, intrapetiolar, folded, falling almost at once and leaving circular scars on the stem. Flowers in axillary and terminal panicles. Sepals free. Petals imbricate, elliptic, concave, nervose, exceeding the sepals. Stamens 9-10, unequal or±equal, situated outside at the base of a very thick 10-angled ring-like disk; filaments subulate; anthers oblong-ellipsoid, almost basifixed. Ovary globose, seated within the fleshy disk, 4-5(-6)-locular, 4-5-angled; style subulate, curved; stigma simple; ovule solitary in each locule, pendulous from near the top of the axis. Fruit a compressed globose drupe, 5(-6)-locular; exocarp thin, fleshy; pyrenes oblong with woody endocarp, fibrous outside; seed oblong, striate, shining, with thin endosperm.
