Succulent perennial herb, tuberous-rooted; stems succulent, erect or procumbent, 11–30 cm long, 10–15 mm in diameter, tuberculate, deep green with 3 darker lines beneath each leaf-base and small paler dots between the lines.. Leaves subulate, 2.5–6 cm long, 2–3(–6) mm wide and thick, clear green, not glaucous.. Capitula discoid, solitary, terminal on 10–27 cm long bracteate scapes glaucous in upper half; involucre 14–20 mm long, 10–15 mm in diameter; bracts of calyculus obscure or absent; phyllaries 8–15, 14 mm long, glaucous.. Ray florets absent; disc florets reddish-orange or magenta, corolla 14.7 mm long, glabrous, tube expanded above the middle, lobes 3 mm long.. Achenes unknown, ovary 4 mm long, sparsely shortly hairy; pappus 9–10 mm long.
