Characteristics

Capitula discoid, solitary or in corymbs or panicles, campanulate; involucre usually calyculate, but sometimes bracts obscure or absent; receptacle epaleate. Flowers tubular, the tube widened at base, of various colours. Anthers obtuse at base, appendaged at apex. Style branches with conical to elongated terminal appendages. Achenes cylindrical to oblong, ribbed; pappus of fine white bristles.
