Plants succulent, stoloniferous and almost geophytic, forming long, underground, sparsely branched stolons up to 300 mm long. Roots fibrous. Branches up to 30-120 mm high, articulated where branched; underground branches pale brown with swollen fusiform parts up to 13 mm in diameter narrowing to +3 mm at stem junction with main stem; aerial branches decumbent to erect, 3-8 mm in diameter, terete, pale green, with powdery bloom, obscurely striate, becoming grey with age, bearing 1-3 articulated side-shoots; leaf scars oblong, grey. Leaves with short petiole 1-3 mm long, ascending, alternate, crowded at apices, varying from linear-lanceolate to elliptic to oblong-oblanceolate, 15-35 x 5-12 mm, green to glaucous, becoming purplish under stress, apex acute, base cuneate, margins entire, strongly rolled backwards and somewhat undulating; midrib slightly raised on abaxial (lower) surface, veining indistinct; old leaves withering and eventually becoming deciduous during dry season. Capitula terminal, ascending (with stems 25-70 mm high), solitary, homogamous, cylindrical-oblong, 20-23 mm long, 6.5 mm in diameter; receptacle flat; phyllaries 8, triangular to triangular-lanceolate, 3-4 x 3 x 1.5 mm; peduncle 15-18(-20) mm long; bracts few, linear-lanceolate to linear, 2-3 mm long, ascending; involucral bracts 6-8, fused at first, linear-lanceolate, in a single row, 15-17 x 3-4 mm; florets bisexual; corolla orange, tubular, 20 x 1 mm, narrowed proximally, 1.7 mm at apex, lobes 5, 1.2 x 0.7. Achene 6 x 1.3 mm, brown, ribbed, strigose.
