Succulent perennial herb with fleshy creeping or procumbent stems to 50 cm long and 8 mm across, and erect flowering scapes to 40 cm high; stems thick, grey-green, glabrous.. Leaves erect or spreading, thick, succulent, sessile, oblanceolate, obovate or obovate-spatulate, 2–6.6 cm long, 0.7–3.2 cm wide, cuneate or attenuate into a petioloid base, margins entire, apex rounded, minutely acuminate-apiculate, glabrous, often tinged purple, mauve or brown, sometimes glaucous.. Capitula discoid, 1–5, terminal; involucre cylindrical, 15–24 mm long, 12–15 mm in diameter; bracts of calyculus 1–3 or absent, ovate or lanceolate, bract-like, 7–13 mm long; phyllaries 6–10, usually 8, thick, succulent, glaucous or pruinose, 15–24 mm long.. Ray florets absent; disc florets orange, orange-red or orange-yellow, corolla 15.5–24 mm long, tube glabrous, slightly expanded above the middle, lobes 1.3–1.5 mm long..
