Shrub or small tree 2–9 m. tall; young branches greenish (or black when dry), ± square, glabrous or finely pubescent; older branches covered with buff smooth bark.. Leaf-blades drying greyish to mahogany-brown, oblong-elliptic, 9.5–16(–21) cm. long, 3.9–7.8 cm. wide, acuminate or sometimes acute at apex, rounded or rarely auriculate at base, chartaceous, tertiary nerves usually apparent beneath, glabrous above, glabrous or with nerves puberulous beneath; domatia occasionally present; petiole 077–1.2 cm. long, glabrous or puberulous; stipules triangular or ovate-triangular, 0.5–1 cm. long, acute sometimes exceeded by an apiculum up to 2 mm. long.. Inflorescence a lax axillary panicle; peduncle slender, 2.5–5 cm., long, glabrous or puberulous; lateral branches 1–2 pairs, opposite; pedicels 4–9(–20 in fruit) mm. long, glabrous or puberulous; bracteoles 4–7 mm. long.. Calyx sparsely puberulous to puberulous outside; tube 1.5–1.75 mm. long; limb 3–4 mm. long, divided almost to base into acute triangular lobes, densely pubescent within.. Corolla white to yellow; tube 4.5–7 mm. long, 4–5.5 mm. wide at top, ± 1 mm. wide at base, densely bearded at throat; lobes lanceolate to narrowly ovate, 7–13 mm. long, 2.5–5 mm. wide, acute to acuminate.. Ovules 2 on a larger placenta or 3 on a smaller placenta; style spindle-shaped; stigma with wings ciliate..
