Characteristics

Erect, caespitose slightly glaucous perennial. Culms 30–45 cm tall, c. 5-noded; mid-culm nodes hidden by leaf sheaths; mid-culm internodes scabrous below nodes. Leaves: basal sheaths densely scabrous; ligule c. 3 mm long, acute, becoming laciniate with age; blade basally flat and involute above, 3–12 cm long, 1.5–2.5 mm wide. Panicles open, 8–20 cm long, partially exserted; peduncle scaberulous; primary branches whorled, spreading, bare at base. Spikelets many, 2–3 mm long; pedicel clavate, scabrous; rachilla 0.25–0.75 mm long, hairy. Glumes not diverging, unequal. Lemma 1–2 mm long, glabrous, 5-nerved, shortly dentate, muticous. Palea slightly shorter than lemma, entire to minutely bidentate. Stamens 3; anthers c. 0.6 mm long.
