Characteristics

Bushy perennial herb to 2 m, woody at the base, all parts densely greyish silky-villous. Leaves crowded, linear-oblong, up to c. 4 x 0.8 cm, those on the flowering twiglets much smaller, sessile, decurrent on the stem in narrow wings, margins entire. Heads small (5-7 mm across, involucre c. 6-7 mm long), shortly pedunculate, 1-5 together in corymbose clusters at the tips of short lateral branches forming a leafy panicle. Involucral bracts in c. 4 series, linear-lanceolate, acuminate, about equalling the disc, purplish-tinged, villous. Flowers yellowish or whitish. Achenes 1 mm long, cylindric, appressed-hairy. Pappus of long slender bristles, persistent.
