Shrub or tree up to 18 m. high; trunk erect, covered with greyish bark; old branches rugose and glabrous; branchlets brownish grey to almost black, smooth or striate, glabrous or with scattered stellate hairs.. Leaves (3–)5–9(–11)-foliolate, alternate; rachis 4–25(–43) cm. long, subterete, somewhat longitudinally furrowed above, glabrous or with few simple hairs; leaflets lanceolate-elliptic, ovate to elliptic or oblong, 4–14(–18) cm. long, 2–7(–8.2) cm. broad, attenuate or somewhat acuminate at the apex (acumen up to 2 cm. long), subconcolorous (when dried almost black above and brown beneath), membranous to papyraceous; terminal leaflet symmetric, with petiolule 2–4 cm. long, the lateral ones unequally rounded or subcuneate at the base and with petiolule 1–6 mm. long; midrib and lateral nerves not or barely raised on both surfaces; reticulation visible beneath in the oldest leaflets.. Inflorescences unbranched spike-like panicles, arising before the leaves and carried below them at the apices of the branchlets; axis 2.5–10 cm. long, pinkish-salmon stellate-tomentose; pedicels 0.2–2.5 mm. long.. Calyx-segments ovate, ± 1 mm. long, obtuse, entire, with a few stellate hairs or glabrous.. Petals oblong-ovate, 2.8–3.5 mm. long, 1.2–1.8 mm. broad, unguiculate..
