Characteristics

A shrub or small tree up to 9 m. high; bole slender, with purplish-grey rough bark; crown lax and round, with greyish glabrous grooved branches.. Leaves appearing after the flowers and the fruits, alternate or crowded at the end of the twigs, 5–7-foliolate; rachis 8–22 cm. long, subterete and longitudinally grooved above, glabrous; leaflets lanceolate, 4–12 cm. long, 1.2–4 cm. broad (but may be much larger in very mature leaves), attenuate or cuspidate at the apex into a narrow acumen up to 1 cm. long, the terminal one symmetric and cuneate at the base and with a petiolule 1–2.5 cm. long, the lateral ones with asymmetric base with the proximal part decurrent into a petiolule 2–10 mm. long, translucent when dried, membranous, glabrous on both surfaces except for the dense tufts of white short somewhat crisped simple hairs in the axils of the lateral nerves beneath.. Inflorescences of unbranched spike-like panicles 4.5–13 cm. long, arising before the leaves or carried below them, crowded at the apices of the branchlets, glabrous; flowers in dense fascicles, subsessile or with pedicels up to 3 mm. long.. Calyx-segments ovate, 1.2–1.5 mm. long, glabrous.. Petals obovate-oblong, 2.5–4 mm. long, 1–1.5 mm. broad, yellow.. Drupe oblong-ellipsoid, compressed, 9–11 mm. long, 6–7 mm. in diameter, glabrous.
