Characteristics

A suffrutex with brownish glabrous or glabrescent striate ascending stems, 5–30 cm. long, arising from horizontal trailing woody rootstock.. Leaves (3–)5–11-foliolate; rachis 3–18 cm. long, flattened and longitudinally grooved above, glabrous to stellate-pubescent; leaflets narrowly to broadly elliptic, 3–8 cm. long, 1.5–4 cm. broad, obtuse or rounded or with a short acumen at the apex, cuneate or somewhat rounded at the base, subcoriaceous, glabrous or with scattered persistent stellate hairs on both surfaces, light green turning reddish brown (to somewhat darker or almost black above) when dried; terminal leaflet asymmetric with petiolule 0.8–5 cm. long, the lateral ones symmetric or somewhat asymmetric at the base, sessile or with a petiolule up to 4 mm. long; midrib raised on both surfaces; lateral nerves slightly to rather raised above but less so beneath; venation not raised but sometimes visible beneath.. Inflorescence 1.5–3 cm. long, unbranched dense spike-like panicle, glabrous to stellate-pubescent; pedicels 1–2 mm. long.. Calyx-segments ovate, ± 1 mm. long.. Petals obovate-elliptic, 2.5–3 mm. long ± 1.5 mm. broad, yellow.. Drupe ovoid-oblong, compressed, 9–12 mm. long, 6–10 mm. in diameter, red but later turning black.
