Characteristics

Rhizome short-creeping, 3-7 mm thick, scaly; scales 2-4 mm long, 0.3-0.6 mm wide, dark brown. Fronds crowded. Stipe 15-50 cm long, scaly towards the base. Lamina 3-4-pinnate, pentagonal, 22-70 cm long, 20-60 cm wide, dark green and glossy above, paler and dull beneath, coriaceous, glabrous except for the rachises; rachises hairy, some hairs dark red. Ultimate segments narrowly ovate; margins thickened and bluntly toothed; apex acuminate. Sori in a marginal line, black at maturity; indusium fawn to black, with coloured marginal glands.
