Characteristics

Shrub or tree, up to 4 m high. Bark with layers of yellow powdery pigment. Leaves opposite, leathery, dark green on both sides; lamina elliptic to broadly elliptic, 15-45 (-70) x 7-25 mm, apex acute to acuminate, base cuneate, margins occasionally glandular-toothed; venation ± raised below, less prominent above; petioles 2-5 mm long. Inflorescences sessile, compact thyrsoid with 5-15 cymules on straight axis. Flowers cream-coloured. Sepals broadly ovate, ± 1.0 mm long, margins ciliolate. Petals broadly elliptic, ± 2.5 x 1.5 mm, rounded, spreading. Stamens flattened, arising from margin of disc. Ovary 2-locular; stigma lobed. Fruit baccate, ± 8 mm in diam., red to purplish black when ripe.
