Fruits 2-lobed or monococcous by abortion, dehiscing septicidally into 2 bivalved cocci, or into 2 valves; endocarp thinly crustaceous.
Leaves alternate, occasionally subopposite, petiolate, stipulate, simple, crenate-dentate, palminerved.
Seeds ovoid-subglobose, ecarunculate; testa crustaceous; albumen fleshy; cotyledons broad and flat.
