Leaf blades 1.5–4.3 × 1–3 cm, ovate, obtuse or subacute at the apex, truncate or wide-cuneate at the base, crenate-dentate on the margins except at the base, very thinly membranaceous, 3–5-nerved from the base, glabrous or almost so beneath; lateral nerves in 3–4 pairs, sparingly pubescent above.
Female flowers ± sessile; calyx lobe, when present, resembling a stipule; ovary c. 1 mm in diameter, 2-lobed, apically setose, the setae with bulbous based hairs, green, tipped purplish; styles c. 1 mm long.
Monoecious, soft, often sprawling annual to 30 cm. Leaves ovate, lobed to coarsely toothed, thinly hairy. Flowers axillary, males in spike-like cymes at branch tips, females solitary, greenish.
