Characteristics

Annual, semi-succulent herb, 0.1-0.4 m high; diffusely branched; stems glabrous, subpellucid. Leaves lower opposite, upper alternate, very thinly membranous, ovate, base truncate or wide-cuneate, apex obtuse or subacute, margins crenate-dentate. Stipules subulate to linear-lanceolate. Inflorescences 10-25 mm long; male bracts 1.0-1.5 mm long; female bracts 4-5 x 1.0-1.5 mm. Male flowers calyx lobes ovate, acute, glabrous; stamens minute. Female flowers sessile; calyx lobe, when present, resembling a stipule; ovary 2-lobed, apically setose, setae with bulbous based hairs. Flowering time Sept.-Mar. Fruit 2-lobed, smooth, apically setose, stramineous. Seeds reticulate.
