Leaves borne towards the apices of the branches, often not fully developed at flowering stage; blades 2–10(16.5) × 1.5–4.2(5.2) cm, elliptic to ovate-elliptic, shortly acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, glabrescent to velvety pubescent on both surfaces but particularly beneath and hairy on the midrib and main nerves; petiole 0.3–1(2.5) cm long, pubescent; stipules 0.5–1.2 cm long, up to 6 mm wide, triangular-ovate, long-acuminate at the apex, ± joined at the base, keeled, yellowish or rusty pubescent, ± persistent.
Corolla opening in the evening, sparsely to very densely silky outside, white; tube very slender, 2.5–6.5 cm long; lobes 2–3.3(5) × 0.7–1.1(1.5) cm, lanceolate-oblong, drawn out to a fine point, glabrous inside save at base in the middle, appressed-pubescent outside.
Small tree or erect shrub (?rarely scandent), (0.3)1–4 m tall, with sparse branching; branches slender, at first puberulous to densely pubescent, at length glabrescent and reddish-brown, bark peeling from the shoots in strips.
Calyx silky pubescent; tube 2–4 mm long, elongate-turbinate; the limb-tube short, becoming 2 mm long in fruit; lobes 1–2 cm × 2–4.5 mm, lanceolate, acuminate, glabrous inside.
Flowers very sweet-scented, sessile, clustered at the apices of the branches or solitary; bracts stipule-like, toothed.
The pollen presenter lobes 3–6 mm long, just exserted to well exserted for c. 1 cm.
Young fruit 0.8–1.3 cm × 5–9 mm, subglobose to oblong, ridged, hairy.
Style sparsely to densely pilose.
