Arborescent shrub to 5 m. tall; stems slender, rusty tomentose when young, later glabrescent and with red peeling bark.. Leaf-blades oblong, elliptic or oblong-elliptic, 3.5–9(–10) cm. long, 1.5–4.5(–5) cm. wide, acuminate or somewhat obtuse at the apex, narrowed to the base, densely softly subtomentose on both surfaces; petiole 2–5 cm. long, pubescent; stipules triangular, 6(–8) mm. long, acute, slightly joined at the base with petioles, subtomentose outside, pilose and glandular within.. Flowers several at the apices of abbreviated leafy branchlets, sessile; bracts similar to the stipules and sometimes bilobed (or with several lanceolate teeth); leaves supporting inflorescence 0.9–1.2 cm. long.. Calyx yellow-grey pubescent; tube turbinate, 4 mm. long, subtomentose; lobes lanceolate, leafy, 2.2 cm. long, acuminate.. Corolla ?white; tube slender, 5.5–6.5 cm. long, dilated above, subtomentose outside; lobes 2.2–2.5 cm. long, acuminate, glabrous inside.. Style 7 cm. long, shortly bifid, glabrous, the stigmas 4 mm. long.. Young fruit oblong-ellipsoid, 1.3 cm. long, 6 mm. wide, hairy, ribbed.
