Multi-stemmed bush or small tree to 10 m.; shoots rather stout, with purplish black bark, the leaves so closely placed that branchlets appear clothed with dry brown stipules; internodes 1–2 cm. long; bark separating from older branches in thick pieces consisting of very many compressed papery layers.. Leaves thinly coriaceous, ± sessile or petiole very short; blades obovate-oblong or elliptic, 16–?25 cm. wide, acute at the apex, narrowed to a rounded base, with rather long ± bristly hairs on the venation beneath and very sparsely on midrib and main nerves above; venation prominent on both surfaces; stipules leafy and nervose, up to 3.5 cm. long, 2.5 cm. wide, cuspidate at the apex, narrowed to base, bristly hairy and ciliate.. Flowers few at apices of shoots contained in an involucre of calyx-like bracts hidden in the leaf tufts.. Corolla white; tube ± 4–5 cm. long, hairy outside; lobes oblong-lanceolate, ± 3 cm. long, 8–9 mm. wide.. Fruit not known.
