Species

Angiosperms > Gentianales > Rubiaceae > Leptactina

Characteristics

Shrub (sometimes scrambling) or small tree (1.5–)2.5–7.5 m. tall; young stems densely to rather sparsely pubescent and with a fine understorey of much shorter indumentum.. Leaf-blades elliptic to oblong-elliptic, 6.6–29.5(–38) cm. long, 4.3–15 cm. wide, shortly to distinctly acuminate at the apex, ± rounded to cuneate at the base, almost glabrous save for short hairs on the venation to rather sparsely pubescent above, sparsely to densely or almost velvety pubescent beneath, with small axillary tufts of hairs visible in the more glabrescent leaves; petiole 0.3–1.7 cm. long, hairy like the stems, with longer hairs on the lateral angles; stipules broad, obtuse at the apex, narrowed beneath, the narrowest part just above the base, somewhat mushroom-shaped, with a basal triangular part pubescent outside tapering into a median line of hairs at its apex or pubescent all over, 0.8–2.3(–3) cm. long, 1.1–2.6(–3) cm. wide, reflexing.. Inflorescence subcapitate, terminating lateral shoots; peduncle 0–1.2(–2) cm. long, ± densely pubescent; pedicels 0.2–1.4 cm. long; bracts opposite, 3-fid, leafy, the divisions lanceolate; bracteoles 1.1–1.5 cm. long.. Flowers 5–6-merous.. Calyx densely pubescent; tube 2–5 mm. long, 1–3 mm. wide, the limb-tube very short or absent; lobes lanceolate, 0.9–2.1 cm. long, 2–6 mm. wide, acute.. Style included; anthers with tips exserted.. Fruits oblong-ellipsoid to ovoid-subglobose, 1.1–2 cm. long, 0.7–1.4 cm. wide, ridged in dry state, at first densely pubescent..
