Tufted perennial 520-1270 mm high; rhizomatous, culms geniculately ascending. Leaf blade 120-270 x 2-4 mm, ligule a fringed membrane 1.5 mm long. Inflorescence spike-like, 150-300 mm long; spikelets overlapping. Spikelet 4-8(11) mm long, 5-10-flowered; glumes ± equal, acute to acuminate; lemma rounded on back; hairy on nerves at base, entire or shallowly 2-lobed; anthers 0.8-1.0 mm long; caryopsis 1.7-2.0 mm long, elliptic or obovate.
Spikelets 5–10-flowered, 4.5–11 mm long, narrowly oblong, overlapping by 1/2–3/4 their length; glumes subequal, 2.8–3.7 mm long, lanceolate to narrowly ovate, acute to acuminate; lemmas 2.8–3.6 mm long, narrowly elliptic-oblong, dorsally rounded, puberulous on the nerves below, otherwise glabrous, entire or faintly 2-lobed at the apex.
Perennial, rhizomatous and tufted (culms geniculately ascending), up to 1.27 m high. Leaf blades 120-270 mm long, 2-4 mm wide; ligule a hairy membrane, 1.5 mm long. Spikelets 4-8 mm long. Spikes 2-8, distant; spikelets overlapping, 5-10-flowered; lemma tip obtuse to minutely notched.
Caespitose perennial up to 120 cm tall, erect or slightly geniculate; ligule a short membrane with conspicuous ciliate margin; leaf lamina 12–27 cm × 2–4 mm, linear, flat, tapering to a filiform apex.
Inflorescence 12–20 cm long, linear; racemes 2–8, slender to rather stout, distant, 3–12 cm long, straight, appressed to the axis or somewhat spreading.
Caryopsis 1.4–1.6 mm long, elliptic-oblong, dorsiventrally flattened, concavo-convex.
