Characteristics

Annuals. Flowering culms 30–40 cm high. Leaves: basal sheaths glabrous or sparsely pilose towards margins; collar glabrous; blade flat, 3.5–6 cm long or longer, 4–5 mm wide, glabrous or sparsely pilose. Inflorescence length not known as the spikes of extant material have fractured; rachis glabrous. Spikelets alternate, 7–8 mm long, with 1 (–2) bisexual florets; rachilla prolongation to 1.2 mm long (including vestigial floret, if present). Upper glume lanceolate, 5–6 mm long, attenuate, coriaceous, 7-nerved, smooth to scabrous, glabrous; awn 2–5 mm long. Basal lemma elliptic, 2.7–3.7 mm long, acute, entire or erose, puberulous; nerves not apically converging; hairs mainly arising in upper half, very sparse on lower half except on submargins, erect. Palea keels minutely hairy towards apex.
