Characteristics

Perennials. Flowering culms 80–120 cm high. Leaves: basal sheaths pilose; collar glabrous; blade flat or folded or convolute, 10–23 cm long, 4–7 mm wide, abaxially pilose. Inflorescences 1–3 cm long; rachis minutely pubescent. Spikelets opposite, 5–7 mm long, with 1 bisexual floret; rachilla prolongation 0.8–1.1 mm long. Upper glume oblong to lanceolate, 5–7 mm long, acuminate, with awn 10–17 mm long, coriaceous, multi-nerved, smooth, densely pubescent. Basal lemma elliptic to ovate, 3.7–4.3 mm long, obtuse or truncate, entire, puberulous; hairs extending the length of the lemma (and also in the intercostal region near the apex), appressed or spreading. Palea keels hairy towards the apex.
