Characteristics

Tree up to 12 m high and 16 cm in diam. Stipules small, ovate, up to 7 mm long, persistent. Leaves (1-or) 2-(or 3-)jugate, glabrous; petiole and rachis 3.5 — 8.5 cm. Leaflets coriaceous, elliptic, oblong, 8.5 — 18( — 27.5) by 2.5-8.5(-9.5) cm; apex acuminate; base obtuse, sometimes slightly unequal; nerves 7-12 per side, inconspicuous, sometimes visible beneath; veins often obscure or invisible; petiolules c. 6 mm; stipels very small, sometimes wanting on some of the leaflets. Inflorescences 3.5-5(-8) cm long; bracts and bracteoles ovate or triangular, c. 2.5 mm long, sparsely hairy outside, ciliate on the margin; pedicels up to c. 2 cm. Flowers white tinged with red or purple. Calyx lobes obovate or oblanceolate, 10-12 by 4-5 mm, almost glabrous except sometimes ciliate on the margin. Petals small, ovate or elliptic, 7-9 by 2-4.5 mm, shortly clawed at base. Stamens: filaments c. 12 mm, dilated at base; anthers c. 3 mm long. Ovary oblong, c. 5 mm long, pubescent; stipe c. 2 mm; style c. 10 mm. Pods hatchet-shaped, 26 by 5 cm. Seeds (young) elliptic, 15 by 8 mm.
