Characteristics

Annual or short-lived perennial, with undivided taproot. Stems short, soon developing many, slender, radiating, procumbent branches. Leaves trifoliolate; leaflets oblanceolate to narrowly elliptic-oblanceolate, ± bluntly pointed, densely strigose-pubescent on both surfaces, 4-20 x 1.5-8.0 mm. Flowers: usually 1 per flowering node, rarely up to 3, leaf-opposed with short peduncle when paired; bracts small, inconspicuous, linear to narrowly ovate; bracteoles 0; corolla yellow; Mar., Apr. Pods slightly widened medially, somewhat turgid, with distinct rib along upper suture, finely pubescent; seeds < 15 per pod, on relatively short funicles.

Standard yellow, shorter than the keel and scarcely exceeding the calyx, trullate above a well developed basally dilated claw, medially pubescent outside; wings a little shorter than the keel; keel c. 6 mm long, narrow, with a short upwardly directed purplish beak, glabrous.
Annual or short-lived perennial, with a short stem, soon developing numerous slender radiating procumbent to prostrate branches from the top of an undivided taproot; branches up to 10–30 cm long, densely strigose-pubescent with silvery appressed slightly biramous hairs.
Flowers 1(2), leaf-opposed at the nodes, with a short peduncle when paired; bracts 2–3 mm long, linear, slightly exceeding the pedicel; bracteoles absent.
Pods c. 5 × 2 mm, almost oblong, slightly widened medially, somewhat turgid, with a distinct rib along the upper suture, finely pubescent, c. 6-seeded.
Calyx 5–6 mm long, densely strigose-pubescent; upper and lateral lobes joined at ± the same level, c. 3 mm long, triangular-subulate.
Seeds 1 mm long, oblique-cordiform, minutely roughened, brown.
