Spikelets narrowly lanceolate, 15–20 mm. long, light brown, beset with tubercle-based hairs; lower glume narrowly ovate, 1/3 as long as the spikelet, tridenticulate; upper glume lanceolate, as long as the spikelet, the upper half drawn out into a long linear tail, obtuse; lower lemma lanceolate, 1/2–2/3 as long as the spikelet, acute; upper lemma 3–5 mm. long, pubescent, bidentate; awn 9–14 cm. long, the column black at maturity; callus oblong, 1 mm. long, 2-toothed; stamens 2.
