Erect perennial herb 0·5–1 m. tall from a tough, but perhaps not tuberous, woody rootstock.. Stems single, branched, shortly woolly with dense grey or ferruginous spreading hairs.. Leaflets 3, paler beneath, elliptic, 1·8–5·6 cm. long, 0·6–2·5 cm. wide, obtuse to subacute at the apex, ± narrowed to a rounded base, pubescent above, densely softly velvety pubescent beneath, the nerves sometimes with ferruginous hairs; petiole 1·5–3·5 cm. long; rhachis 2–3 mm. long; petiolules 2–3 mm. long; stipules 10 mm. long, 3 mm. wide, pubescent, veined.. Flowers 1–4 in axillary fascicles; peduncles 3–4 mm. long; pedicels 2·5–3·5 mm.; bracts ovate-lanceolate, 3 mm. long; bracteoles lanceolate, 3·5–4 mm. long, pubescent.. Calyx pubescent with spreading hairs; tube 2·5 mm. long; lobes linear-triangular, 3–5 mm. long, tapering at the apex; upper pair joined into a triangular lobe with a finely bifid tip..
