Erect perennial herb 0·5–1 m. tall from a tough, but perhaps not tuberous, woody rootstock.. Stems single, branched, shortly woolly with dense grey or ferruginous spreading hairs.. Leaflets 3, paler beneath, elliptic, 1·8–5·6 cm. long, 0·6–2·5 cm. wide, obtuse to subacute at the apex, ± narrowed to a rounded base, pubescent above, densely softly velvety pubescent beneath, the nerves sometimes with ferruginous hairs; petiole 1·5–3·5 cm. long; rhachis 2–3 mm. long; petiolules 2–3 mm. long; stipules 10 mm. long, 3 mm. wide, pubescent, veined.. Flowers 1–4 in axillary fascicles; peduncles 3–4 mm. long; pedicels 2·5–3·5 mm.; bracts ovate-lanceolate, 3 mm. long; bracteoles lanceolate, 3·5–4 mm. long, pubescent.. Calyx pubescent with spreading hairs; tube 2·5 mm. long; lobes linear-triangular, 3–5 mm. long, tapering at the apex; upper pair joined into a triangular lobe with a finely bifid tip.. Calyx densely golden villous; tube 2.5 mm long; lobes 3–4 mm long, linear-triangular, the upper two connate along almost all their length.
Pod golden, 4–5.5 cm × 4–5 mm, linear, compressed, glabrous or puberulous though margins always puberulous, 6–8-seeded.
Stems freely branched, some branch tips sometimes twining, young stems golden velvety, older stems glabrescent.
