Standard mauve (in the Flora Zambesiaca area), 1.8–2.8 × 1.7–2 cm, broadly elliptic, emarginate at the apex, with 8–10 mm long linear appendages; wings 20–22 × 2–3 mm; keel 19–23 × 3–4 mm.
Calyx appressed pilose; tube 4–5 mm long; lobes 7–9 mm long, triangular to lanceolate, the upper pair fused along two-thirds of their length.
Flowers axillary in pairs; pedicels 4–11 mm long; bracts 4–6 mm long, lanceolate; bracteoles 3–4 mm long, linear-lanceolate.
Erect herb up to 60 cm tall, from a perennial woody rootstock.
Stems annual, sparsely white spreading pubescent.
Ovary 15 mm long, linear, appressed pilose.
