Characteristics

Trailing perennial herb about 1 m. long from a thin woody rootstock.. Stems slender, covered with rather tangled white hairs.. Leaflets 3, the terminal oblong-elliptic, the laterals ovate-elliptic, 1–5 cm. long, 0·4–2·5 cm. wide, obtuse or subacute at the apex, narrowly rounded at the base, rather sparsely covered with long white adpressed hairs particularly along the margins, and also densely covered with microscopic black dots; petiole 1–6·5 cm. long; rhachis 1–3 mm. long; petiolules ± 1 mm. long; stipules conspicuous, persistent, ovate, (3–)7–10 mm. long, (2–)4–6 mm. wide, up to 15-veined.. Flowers several in axillary fascicles; pedicels 4 mm. long; bracts elliptic-lanceolate; bracteoles placed near middle of pedicel, 6–8 mm. long, 2·5–3·5 mm. wide.. Calyx-tube 3–4 mm. long, glabrescent; lobes leafy, ovate-lanceolate, 6·5–7·5 mm. long, the lowest somewhat rounded at the base, all acuminate; upper pair joined for two-thirds of their length.. Standard ? red or bright yellow, obovate, 1·8 cm. long, 1·2–1·4 cm. wide.. Young fruits densely white hairy.

Flowers axillary, in pairs or in 3–4-flowered fascicles; pedicels 3–4 mm long; bracts 6–8 mm long, lanceolate, acuminate, striate; bracetoles 4–6 mm long, narrowly lanceolate, acuminate.
Pods (immature) 3–5.2 cm × 4–6 mm, linear-oblong, densely pubescent, 5–7-seeded; beak 5–10 mm long; valve margins thickened to form a ridge.
Calyx glabrescent; tube 3–4 mm long; lobes 6–8 mm long, lanceolate, acuminate, the upper pair fused for two-thirds of their length.
Prostrate herb up to 1 m long, arising from a perennial fibrous and tuberous rootstock.
