Characteristics

Leaves (1) 3 (5)-foliolate; leaflets 2.3–4.5 x 1–1.8 cm., lateral leaflets smaller, narrowly elliptic, elliptic or narrowly obovate, apex obtuse or acute, mucronulate, base narrowly cuneate, glabrous on both sides, membranous, nerves not prominent; petiole up to 2.3 cm. long, papillose-puberulous; petiolules similar, up to 5 mm. long.

Inflorescence of terminal or axillary, racemose, leafless panicles; peduncles 2–6 cm. long, puberulous; racemes c. 10-flowered, rather dense, on secondary peduncles up to 1.5 cm. long; pedicels up to 7 mm. long, puberulous; bracts up to 1 mm. long, trifid, subulate.
Ovary on a glabrous gynophore up to 1.3 cm. long, oblong-ellipsoid, glabrous; ovules c. 16 on 2 placentas; stigma sessile, capitate, narrower than the ovary.
Sepals reddish outside, c. 7 x 4 mm., oblong-elliptic, apex obtuse, puberulous outside, particularly towards the margin.
Receptacle 3 mm. long x 1.5 mm. wide at the mouth, cylindric, puberulous-pilose outside, with a dentate margin within.
Stamens c. 40, on reddish filaments c. 1.3 cm. long; anthers 1.3 x 1.0 mm., oblong-ovate.
Fruit c. 1 x 0.8 cm., ellipsoid-globose, longitudinally 4–6-ribbed.
Climbing shrub; branches reddish, puberulous when young.
Androgynophore about the same length as the receptacle.
