Woody shoots about 5 dm. tall, arising from a thick gnarled rootstock.. Stems puberulent, sometimes glabrescent.. Leaves petiolate, simple; blade elliptic, oblong-elliptic to obovate-elliptic, 13–35 mm. long, 8–17 mm. wide, apically very obtuse to rounded, mucronate, glabrous, with the midrib and primary nerves, which mostly arise in the lower half, prominent beneath; petiole 3–4 mm. long.. Inflorescence sometimes a terminal few-flowered subcorymbose raceme, but most of the flowers solitary in many of the upper leaf-axils; pedicels up to 1.5 cm. long, usually glabrous.. Sepals ± 7 mm. long, marginally puberulent; receptacle narrowly cylindrical, 4–5 mm. long.. Petals ovate to suborbicular, 2.5–3.5 mm. long.. Stamens 42–50; filaments ±18 mm. long.. Ovary spherical, glabrous; stigma small, sessile.. Immature fruits spherical, verruculose, glabrous; mature fruits unknown.
