Characteristics

Straggling shrub or small tree, up to 6 m. tall.. Young twigs densely and softly hairy, later glabrescent.. Leaves petiolate, 3-foliolate or the upper ones simple; blade lanceolate-elliptic to broadly oblong-elliptic, 3–6.5 cm. long, 1.5–3.3 cm. wide, apically obtuse, rounded or emarginate, mucronate, basally narrowed to somewhat rounded, rather rough and hairy on the upper surface, densely and softly tomentose beneath or more thinly so with age, and then rather rough due to the rather prominent reticulate venation; petiole up to 4 cm. long.. Inflorescence terminal, shortly and densely racemose; pedicels up to about 2.5 cm. long, sometimes densely hairy.. Sepals ± 8 mm. long, densely hairy outside, nearly glabrous within; receptacle ± 2.5 mm. long.. Petals very broadly obovate to suborbicular, 5–7 mm. long, white.. Stamens about 30, ± 2 cm. long.. Ovary ovoid-ellipsoid,glabrous.. Fruits spheroid, up to 2.5 cm. in diameter, pale brown or green, verrucose, densely hairy.

Leaves 3-foliolate or the upper ones simple; leaflets 2–12 x 1–6 cm., lateral leaflets about 1/2 the median leaflet in size, lanceolate, ovate or broadly elliptic, apex obtuse, retuse or subacute, mucronulate, base cuneate or obtuse, rugose and glabrescent above with impressed nerves and veins, greyish and shortly lanate below with prominent nerves and veins; petiole up to 4 cm. long.
Inflorescence of short, dense, terminal racemes; pedicels pilose, up to 2 cm. long; bracts 3 mm. long, subulate, pilose, or the lower ones like the leaves but always simple and smaller.
