Characteristics

Leaves not fasciculate, petiolate; lamina dark green and glossy above, somewhat paler below, (5·5)6·5–13 × (2·5)3·2–7 cm., ovate to elliptic, acute or acuminate at the apex, with margin shallowly glandular-crenulate-denticulate, cuneate or shortly angustate to subrounded at the base, coriaceous, with c. 6–10 lateral nerves slightly prominent on both sides; petiole 4–9 mm. long.

Cymes ± condensed, usually fasciculate, sessile or very shortly pedunculate, in axils of foliage leaves or bracts, pedicels 7–12 mm. long, articulated c. 1/4–5/8 above the base; flowers c. 2–10 in each fascicle, rarely solitary, 6–7 mm. in diam.
Shrub or small tree 2·6 m. high, unarmed, glabrous except sometimes young shoots, without latex; branches 4-lined and finely puberulous or glabrous when young, becoming terete, longitudinally striate and glabrous.
Capsule green, c. 8–10 mm. long, obovoid to subglobose or shallowly 2–3-lobed, with lobes rounded and rugose-papillose, fleshy at first.
Ovary 2–3-locular, ovoid-pyramidal to subglobose, slightly immersed in disk; style elongate; stigma entire, capitate.
Petals white to greenish-yellow, 2–2·5 mm. long, subcircular, unguiculate, with finely ciliolate crisped margin.
Stamens 5, with filaments c. 0·5 mm. long, flattened, inserted within the outer margin of the disk.
Sepals 5, unequal, 1·5–2 mm. long, ovate to subcircular, acute to rounded.
Disk shallowly 10-lobed, concave, with thin free margin.
Seeds orange, completely enclosed by an aril.
