Characteristics

A glabrous unarmed shrub or tree. Branches terete, brownish. Twigs purplish-brown, angular, slightly flexuous. Leaves alternate, membranous or sub-coriaceous, sessile or sub-sessile; lamina 3.5-6.8 cm long, 1.5-4 cm wide, ovate, with a distinctly cordate base and an acute or obtuse very shortly mucronulate apex; margin serrulate or sub-entire; paler beneath, with the veins showing distinctly on both surfaces. Inflorescence axillary, cymose, very few-flowered. Peduncle 2-4 mm long; pedicel about 5 mm long. Flowers 5-parted. Sepals 1.5 mm long, sub-orbicular, with an irregular or very slightly laciniated margin. Petals 2.75 mm long, sub-orbicular, narrowed to a short claw and with a slightly involute margin and distinct yellowish-brown veins. Filaments 1 mm long. Disc fleshy, flat, 5-angled. Ovary 3-chambered, with two ovules in each chamber; style 5 mm long; stigmas 3. Fruit an obcordate 3-locular capsule, about 1 cm long. Seeds compressed, covered by a thin membranous aril.
