Characteristics

Shrub or shrubby herb to1.25 m tall; young branches, petioles and peduncles pubescent or finely sericeous to densely so. Leaves pubescent or sparselv so, often densest on veins and margin. ± dark sessile glands: petiole 1-8 (-15) mm long; lamina narrowly elliptic to elliptic or narrowly ovate to ovate, largest 2-8(-12) X 0.5-2.3(-5.2) cm; 1/b-ratio 2.2-5.2; apex acute to retuse, apiculate; base attenuate to truncate. Spikes 1-8 cm long; peduncle 1-8 mm long; axes finely sericeous to puberulous from non-glandular hairs (basal part) and with non-capitate glandular hairs, scattered capitate glands present or not. Bracts green or with purplish veins, ovate to broadly so or elliptic; lower 7-20 X 3-14 mm, acumen 1-6 mm long, sharp, recurved; upper subglabrous to puberulous or pubescent with non-glandular hairs or non-capitate glandular hairs, short (up to 0-5 mm) capitate glands present or not, ciliate or not, central vein strong, lateral veins in 2-4 pairs; bracteoles 1-4 mm long. Calyx 5-8 mm long, puberulous to pubescent from non-capitate glands, usually also with stalked capitate glands. Corolla bright blue; tube 6-13 mm long; lobes 8-14 mm long, middle in lower lip 2-4.5 mm wide; filaments 5-8 mm long. Capsule 9-14 mm long, puberulous (mainly along sutures, central part of valves usually glabrous) or towards apex or on apical peg only; seed 4.5-6 X 3.5-5 mm, greyish, rugose, with numerous glandular-glochidiate hairs, rim entire.
