Melichrus procumbens (Cav.) Druce

A small shrub. It lies along the ground or grows to 10 cm high. It spreads 20-50 cm wide. Young growth is hairy. The branches are spreading. The leaves are 0.6-2.7 cm long by 0.1-0.4 cm wide. They are narrowly oval and without stalks. They are green and have a fringe along the edge. There are hairs and prominent veins underneath. The tip is pointed. The flowers are about 1 cm across. They occur singly in the axils of leaves. They have nectar present. The fruit are 0.5 cm across. They are green or red.

It grows in warm temperate locations. It grows on sandy soils in open forests. It can tolerate frosts.

Plants can be grown from seed or cuttings.
