Inferior glume (0.1)0.2–0.4(0.5) mm. long, ovate, inserted close to the superior; superior glume 7-nerved, awnless or mucronate, membranous, obtusely bilobed, glabrous to sparsely haity.
Inferior floret barren without a palea, its lemma 5-nerved, acutely bilobed, equalling the superior glume but narrower with an awn 2–10 mm. long, rarely awnless.
Leaf laminae (1.5)3–11(14) cm. long, (2)3–8(11) mm. wide, flat, often densely tomentose.
Pedicels with a few long hairs towards the apex, scabrous.
Culms (59)70–130(160) cm. high, ascending, rarely erect.
Panicle (6)8–20(27) cm. long, ovate to narrowly ovate.
Spikelets 1.4–1.8 mm. long, narrowly ovate to oblong.
