Characteristics

Loosely tufted perennial 400-1 000 mm high; culms geniculate. Leaf blade 20-140 x 2.8-6.5 mm. Inflorescence 70-200 x 20-40 mm. Spikelet 2.4-2.8(-3.2) mm long, hairs extending to 1.5 mm beyond the apex; internode between glumes very short; lower glume 0.2-0.8 mm long; upper glume 5-rarely 7-nerved, awnless or awn up to 0.3 mm long; lower lemma 5-nerved, awn 1.0-2.4 mm long; lower palea present, sometimes reduced or absent on same inflorescence, keels scaberulous or sometimes minutely ciliate.
