More
Straggling perennial 500-1 100 mm high. Leaf blade 20-80 x 3-6 mm, occasionally hairy. Inflorescence branches delicate; pedicels smooth, apex with few long hairs of 2-4 mm. Spikelet 1.1-1.5(-1.6) x 0.5 mm, narrowly ovate to oblong, glabrous or pubescent; internode between glumes very short; lower glume reduced to a scale, 0.1 mm long; upper glume 5-nerved, not grooved as nerves not prominent, dentate, awnless, glabrous to sparsely hairy; lower lemma 3-5-nerved, lobed or dentate, awn white, (1.5-)4.0-10.0 mm long; lower palea absent; anthers 1.2-1.5 mm long.
Perennial, tufted, up to 1.1 m high. Leaf blades 20-80 mm long, 3-6 mm wide. Spikelets 1.1-1.5(-1.6) mm long, 0.5 mm wide. Inflorescence open and loose, 80-200 mm long and often almost as wide; hairs 2-4 mm long on pedicel at base of spikelet; lower glume reduced to a scale 0.1 mm long; upper glume 5-nerved, awnless and not grooved; female-fertile (upper) lemma 3-5-nerved, awn white (1.5-)4.0-0.0 mm long.
Inferior glume an obscure rim up to 0.1 mm. long, inserted close to the superior; superior glume 5-nerved, thinly membranous, irregularly dentate, glabrous to sparsely hairy.
Inferior floret barren without a palea, its lemma 3–5-nerved, emarginate or irregularly dentate, equalling the superior glume but narrower and with an awn (1.5)4–10 mm. long.
Leaf laminae (1.5)2– 8(10) cm. long, 3–6 mm. wide, flat, glabrous or rarely pubescent.
Leaves usually pubescent in West African specimens, but not markedly sticky.
Perennial, erect or geniculately ascending, up to 1·5 m. long
Panicle 10–20 cm. long, broadly ovate, delicately branched.
