Decumbent to erect, annual or perennial shrublet, 0.1-0.3 m high, stems with conspicuous nodes with fine horizontal furrow, covered by hair-like bladder cells. Leaves often reduced, dried up or deciduous, stems taking over photosynthetic role. Flowers solitary to many per cyme, white or dark to pale pink. Flowering time all year. Capsules pale brown, 5-locular, valve wings inflexed over valves.
Dwarf shrub, succulent, 0.1-0.3 m high. Stems erect, decumbent or procumbent; with hairlike papillae; constricted at nodes, green, with persistent, succulent, primary cortex. Leaves almost cylindrical. Flowers: 1-many in a cyme; corolla ± 10 mm in diameter; petals dark or pale pink or white; Oct.-Jan. Fruit 5-locular.
