Characteristics

Perennial, scrambling shrublet, up to 3 m high, stems decumbent to erect, articulate, nodes conspicuous with a fine horizontal furrow, bladder cells flattened. Leaves free, often reduced, dried up or deciduous, stems taking over photosynthetic role. Flowers solitary to many per cyme, white or pale pink. Flowering time Oct.-Jan. Capsules 4-or 5-locular, valve wings inflexed over valves.
