Characteristics

Highly compact, dwarf succulent shrublet, entire plant reduced to a single pair of leaves, up to 200 mm tall. Leaves alternate, cylindrical, smooth, sheathing the stem, first of vegetative period long, second one shorter, entire leaf drying out completely and providing a protective cover in resting season. Flowers 10-20 mm diam., white to cream, filamentous staminodes absent, stamens and stigmas concealed. Fruit 5-locular.
