Partes herbaceae papillosae, papillis novellis prominentibus, opacis vel subnitentibus, rotundis vel ellipticis, senectis delapsis concavis, saepe rubro-marginatis; rami decumbentes vel adscendentes crassi, ad 7 mm diam., 17 cm longi vel ultra, inferne dense, superne laxe, nervo medio indurato vel subspinescente gracillimo, ad 1 cm longo, foliorum anni prioris onusti, ex eorum axillis ramulis hornotinis orientibus; folia fere erecta (i.e. ad ramulos fere adpessa), alterna vel rarius opposita, dorso rotundata, supra plana vel superne leviter convexa, acuta viridia, 1.5-3.7 cm longa, ad 4 mm lata diametroque; flores in genere inter minores, 1.6 cm diam., sat laxe dispositi sed tamen copiosi, cum alabastris ad 20 visi ramulum terminantes; pedunculi ad 1.2 cm longi; receptaculum globose turbinatum, obscure 5-angulatum, angulis rotundatis, per 2 mm productum, apice 7 mm diam.; sepala 5 inaequilonga acuta, 5-8 mm longa, 3 anguste membranaceo-marginata; petala rosulata densa, demum radiantes, 3-seriata, obtusa vel acuta, rosea vel roseo-carnea (‘vieux rose’), externe rubra, ad 1.2 cm longa, per 1.5 mm coalita, in genere inter latissima, ad 1.5 mm, vel rarius ad 2 mm, lata; staminodia crebra conspicua, pallidissime rosea vel alba; stamina ad 4 mm longa, antheris pollineque albidis; foveolae profundae; ovarium fere per 1 mm elevatum, angulis sat acutis; stigmata 5, e basi crassa superne gracilia, 2 mm longa.

Clustered, small, succulent shrublet, up to 50 mm tall, roots not tuberous, stems weakly lignified, becoming somewhat corky, usually short. Leaves deciduous, opposite and 4-ranked below inflorescence, otherwise alternate, subcylindrical, with prominent epidermal bladder-cells, becoming somewhat spinescent when dry and remaining on stems for some time. Flowers ±20 mm diam., bright pink, whitish inside, stamens and stigmas not concealed. Fruit 5-locular.
