Characteristics

Prostrate to decumbent or scrambling, succulent geophyte to hemicryptophyte, with tuberous roots, stems weakly lignified. Leaves opposite and 4-ranked below inflorescence, otherwise soon alternate, subcylindrical, narrowly ovate, with small or also prominent and often hair-like, epidermal bladder-cells, especially on receptacle and pedicel. Flowers 20-30 mm diam., shades of pale yellow, copper or cream. Fruit 5-locular.
