Characteristics

Leaves paripinnate, in 3(4) pairs; stipules intrapetiolar, early caducous, leaving a low rim between the stem and the petiole; petiole 1.4–2.1 cm long, almost glabrous to pubescent, glabrescent; rachis 3–8 cm long, channelled on the upper surface, glabrous to pubescent; leaflets up to 7.6 × 4 cm, the terminal pair the largest, elliptic to obovate, slightly asymmetric, glabrous to pubescent, the distal side of the midrib pubescent near the base, apex bluntly acuminate, base asymmetrically cuneate with the proximal side expanded, venation slightly prominent on both surfaces; 1–3 resin vesicles near the base of each leaflet.

Flowers 8–12, in racemes that are leaf-opposed and appear terminal on short shoots; axis usually unbranched, terete, glabrescent; bracts and bracteoles very early caducous, the bracts c.2 × 0.5 mm, spathulate, with ciliate margins; bracteoles c.1.5 mm long, spathulate; pedicels 1.5–2 cm long, terete.
Pod 10–14 × 3.5–4.5 cm, asymmetrically obtriangular, flattened, glabrous, ridged along each side of upper margin, explosively dehiscent; stipe c.8 mm long.
Ovary 2-ovulate, asymmetrically obovate-elliptic, c.3.5 mm long, glabrous; stipe very short, glabrous; style c.7 mm long, glabrous; stigma capitate.
Seed c.2.8 × 2.3 × 0.8 cm, very broadly ellipsoidal, flattened, dull brown with a darker rim.
Petals white, 4–5, 7 × 1.5 mm, narrowly elliptic to narrowly obovate, with a strong midvein.
Stamens 8–10; filaments 5.6–6 mm long, glabrous; anthers 2 × 3 mm.
Branchlets brown becoming grey, pubescent, strongly lenticellate.
Sepals 4, 4.5 × 2 mm, ovate, reflexed at anthesis, glabrous.
