Characteristics

Plants 5–30 cm high, 30.5–45 cm long. Culm internodes c. 1 mm long. Leaves: sheath 4–5 mm long, 7–9-nerved, hairy about the mouth or glabrous, often scaberulous on margins; ligule a fringe of hairs, 0.3–0.5 mm long; blade 7–16 mm long, 0.5–1.5 mm wide, acute, herbaceous to coriaceous, rigid, 5–7-nerved, pilose with tubercle-based hairs especially along margins or sometimes glabrous, scabrous. Panicles usually 10–15 mm long and 7–15 mm wide, glandular on peduncle, branches and pedicels. Glumes longer than florets, ovate or oblong, 0.5–1 mm long, acute to truncate, muticous or mucronulate, 1-nerved. Lemma ovate, 0.4–0.5 mm long, obtuse, hyaline or membranous, nerveless or 1–4-nerved. Palea nerveless or obscurely nerved. Caryopsis broadly ellipsoid, 0.3–0.5 mm long, striate or reticulate.
