Characteristics

Plants 3–15 cm high, 10–30 cm long. Culm internodes 0.3–1 mm long. Leaves: sheath 1–2.5 mm long, 3-nerved, glabrous with long cilia on the apical margins; ligule a fringe of hairs, 0.1.0.2 mm long; blade 3.5–6 mm long, 0.3–0.5 mm wide, acute, not pungent, coriaceous, 3-nerved, moderately densely to densely pilose with hairs not tubercle-based and 0.4–0.7 mm long, scaberulous on margins. Spikes shortly exserted with the peduncle obscured by upper leaves, subtended by a keeled bract c. 3 mm long, of 7–10 sessile or subsessile spikelets, 4–5 mm long, 1.5–1.8 mm wide, eglandular; peduncle 0.7–2.1 mm long, glabrous, eglandular. Glumes much exceeding florets, oblong, 1.3–1.9 mm, emarginate with two broad lobes, muticous, with 1 keeled nerve and 1–3 moderate to obscure nerves, ciliate on upper margins. Lemma oblong, 0.6–0.8 mm long, obtuse, membranous, 1–3-nerved. Palea nerveless. Caryopsis not seen.
