Plants 4–12 cm high, many cm long. Culm internodes c. 0.75 mm long. Leaves: sheath 3–4 mm long, abruptly narrowed at junction with blade, with c. 5 ribbed nerves, mostly glabrous, smooth; ligule a fringe of hairs, c. 0.2 mm long; blade 4–8 mm long, 0.3–0.75 mm wide, acute, herbaceous, stiff, 3–5-nerved, pilose with slender, simple and tubercle-based hairs, scabrous. Spikes exserted, of c. 10 spikelets, 4–5 mm long, 1.5–2 mm wide; peduncle 10–20 mm long, glandular. Glumes much exceeding florets, oblong, 1.75–2 mm long, 2-lobed, with a flattened spine c. 0.5 mm long from the sinus, 1-nerved. Lemma oblong, c. 0.5 mm long, obtuse, hyaline, 1 (or 3)-nerved. Palea nerveless. Caryopsis ellipsoid, 0.3–0.5 mm long, striolate.
Grows among boulders and rock pavement on sandstoneplateaux, on the margins of Melaleuca swamps at the base of thescarp, and in broad, sandy gullies, often in shady seepage sites sheltered bysandstone overhangs, ledges and rocks.
