Characteristics

Plants 5–7 cm high, many cm long. Culm internodes 0.5–0.8 mm long. Leaves: sheath 2–3 mm long, 3–5-nerved, mostly glabrous and smooth; ligule a fringe of hairs, 0.3–0.5 mm long; blade 5–6 mm long, 0.3–0.5 mm wide, subobtuse, indurated, rigid, 3-nerved, sparsely pilose, papillose or scaberulous. Spikes exceeded by the upper leaves, subtended by a keeled bract, of c. 5 spikelets, 3–4 mm long, c. 1 mm wide, eglandular; peduncle to c. 1 mm long. Glumes c. twice as long as florets, ovate-oblong, c. 1 mm long, truncate, muticous, 1–sub 3-nerved, apically scaberulous. Lemma ovate, c. 0.5 mm long, truncate, dentate, membranous, 1-nerved. Palea nerveless. Caryopsis not seen.
